Haryana girl wins gold at ISSF shooting World Cup

The Hush Post: Maru Bhaker, a 16 year old from Haryana won the gold medal at the ISSF shooting World Cup in the 10m air pistol category. She won another gold at the tournament in Mexico, when she teamed up with Om Prakash Mitharval in the 10m air pistol mixed team competition.

In her individual event, Bhaker collected a total of 237.5 to edge out the local favourite from Mexico, Alejandra Zavala Vazquez, who came in second with 237.1. Celine Goberville of France came third with 217.0.

In the mixed team event, Bhaker and her team mate, Mitharval scored 476.1 to give India another gold medal. This was India’s third gold medal at the tournament.

Sandra and Christian Reitz scored 475.2 to take the silver medal. The bronze medal was won by Celine and Florian Fouquet of France, who scored 415.1.

India also won a bronze in the 10m air rifle mixed team event, with Mehuli Ghosh and Deepak Kumar scoring third with a total of 435.1. The gold was won by the Chinese pair of Xu Hong and Chen Keduo, who scored a world record setting 502. The silver was one by Romania’s Coman Laura-Georgeta and Moldoveanu Alin George, who scored 498.4.

India has bagged seven medals in the competition, and is on top of the medals tally in the World Cup.
