2 killed as a van rolls down 150-feet-deep gorge in Kullu, six injured

The driver had lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a steep curve.

The Hush Post: Two persons were killed and six injured when a Maruti Omni van, in which they were travelling in, rolled down a 150-feet-deep gorge near Chakurtha of Banjar in Kullu district. The deceased have been identified as 58-year-old Teja Ram, S/O Laju Ram, Village Padharni, and 43-year-old Banti Devi, W/O Hem Raj Negi, Village Chakurtha.

SHO Chotte Lal informed that the driver lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a steep curve following which the vehicle rolled down the 150-metre-gorge. Two of the occupants died on the spot while six others were injured. The injured include a small kid and are said to be residents of Chakurtha and nearby areas.

They injured rushed to the Bali Chowki hospital from where two of them, who were grievously hurt were referred to Kullu Hospital. Their condition is said to be stable till the last reports came in.

Last Wednesday a youth was killed and three others injured in three different car accidents in Kullu. The incidents took place at Pachehu near Hurla falling under the Bhuntar police station; and at Charoranala and Hathisthan, both falling on the Bhunta-Manikaran road.

In the Pachehu accident, 26-year-old Vishwadev of Tharala village succumbed to his injuries after his jeep fell down a 150-feet-deep gorge.
