Three girl students died in Chandigarh on Saturday after fire broker in the PG in which they were living in. The incident occurred in Sector 32 of the city.
The girls, aged 19-22, have been identified as Muskan, Riya and Prakshi. The deceased girls were staying on the first floor of the building.
Two of the three girls who died are from Punjab and one was from Haryana.
The PG accommodation houses as many as 36 students who stay as paying guests. Most of the students were out of the house at the time of the incdent.
Police said two students jumped from the window of a washroom to escape the blaze.
The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, however, unconfirmed reports say one of the girls was charging her laptop when its adapter caught fire.
Fire officials have found several fire safety violations in the building, with an irregular construction on the top.
Four fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the blaze.
