The Hush Post: Sukhpal Singh Khaira of the Aam Aadmi has said that AAP is in talks with AAP and the two may enter into an alliance for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 in Punjab.
On the lines of what Simarjit Singh Bains had said earlier, Khaira reiterated that he has specific information regarding the alliance which is in the offing. He said that the Congress will not offer more than 2 seats out of 13 in Punjab. However, in the same breath, he clarified that as far as he is concerned they will not enter into an alliance with any party. Khaira said that he knew that Congress and AAP are talking about the alliance through the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Khaira has been at loggerheads with the party’s parent body in Delhi, more so since he was removed as Leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha. Khaira has had the support of eight MLAs while 12 are on the other side.
AAP won four Lok Sabha seats last time round from Punjab. It was expected by the party and believed by many that they may win the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections as well by a comfortable majority but couldn’t get more than 20 seats. Of late, the party is in tatters and struggling to keep its Punjab MLAs together. Many do not see eye to eye with the central leadership of APP.
