Blood diluted with water and then sent to blood banks. A racket has been busted which used to dilute two units of blood with water to make it three units. Then they would sell it to the hospitals.
On Thursday, the Special Task Force from Lucknow arrested seven people for running an illegal blood bank. The gang of seven used to ask for blood donation from professional donors and add water to almost double its quantity. They were running this racket from Mecca Ganj Sitapur Road, Lucknow.
Naseem, the main accused who operated the illegal blood bank, has been arrested. He used to prepare the label and compatibility form of various blood banks. According to STF SSP Abhishek Singh, Naseem used to send adulterated blood to several nursing homes and other places per unit for Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000.
Another accused, Rashid Ali alias Atif used to bring blood donors and sell their blood after adulteration. Raghavendra Pratap Singh a lab technician used to supply blood bags. Pankaj Kumar Tripathi, a lab attendant in the blood bank, used to draw blood from professional blood donors and supply it to Nasim. Honey aka Rajneesh used to prepare blood bags by printing fake stickers and other papers.
