The Hush Post: The Islamic State ISIS has claimed responsibility for suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan which killed 19 people, which included 17 Sikhs and Hindus.
The bomber, who had specific information about the delegation, targeted the minority communities since it was travelling to the Governor’s residence in the eastern city of Jalalabad on Sunday for a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani.
Avtar Singh Khalsa, a Sikh community leader, was among those killed. Another 20 people were wounded.
In a statement released, IS said it had targeted a group of “polytheists.”
Sikhs and Hindus face discrimination in this conservative Muslim country and have been targeted by Islamic extremists in the past, leading many to emigrate. The Sikh community which numbered more than 80,000 people in the 1970s, today only has around a couple of thousands living in Kabul, Kandahar and Jalalabad.
