Akshay Kumar donates Rs. 25 crore, Tata Trust 1500 cr to combat Corona pandemic

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has pledged Rs. 25 crores to help the government deal with the coronavirus crisis. Akshay Kumar on Saturday made the announcement to donate the sum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PM-CARES fund.

It is to be worthwhile mentioned that Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata too has announced to donate Rs. 1500 crores to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr. Ratan N. Tata, Chairman, Tata Trusts, announced a set of actions and committed Rs. 500 Crores towards tackling the situation. In addition, Tata Sons announced an additional Rs. 1000 Crores support towards COVID 19 and related activities.

“We will work together with the Tata Trusts and our Chairman Emeritus Mr. Tata and would be fully supporting their initiatives, and work in a collaborative manner to bring the full expertise of the group”, said a message from N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons.

The amount announced by Akshay Kumar is the largest by any Indian celebrity so far.

Akshay Kumar tweeted, “This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to @narendramodi ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated Akshay’s gesture to combat COVID-19, calling it a ‘great gesture’.

Before Akshay Kumar, actor Hrithik Roshan and comedian Kapil Sharma too have announced donations of Rs 20 lakh and Rs 50 lakh respectively.

Besides, various A-listers from the southern film industries have also come forward to donate for the cause.

Bahubali star Prabhas has pledged an amount of Rs 4 crore for Covid-19 relief while Telugu superstars Pawan Kalyan, Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi and Mahesh Babu too have come forward.
