The Punjab Police have all the six accused in connection with the gangrape of a 21-year-old girl in Ludhiana last week.
Newly-appointed Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta has confirmed the arrest of all the six accused. “A time bound investigation will be conducted,” said Gupta. Justice will be done, he added.
Earlier on Wednesday a Judicial Magistrate in Ludhiana sent three of the accused- Sadiq Ali, Jagroop Singh and Surmo to police custody for seven days. The three were manhandled by Akali protestors while being taken to the court.
The police first arrested Sadiq Ali from Nawanshahar who spilled the beans. He told police that five others were involved in the crime. From his interrogation emerged that Jagroop Singh was the prime accused in the case. Besides, Jagroop and Sadiq, the other four accused are Ajay Kumar alias Brij Nandan, Saif Ali, Surmu and one is an acquaintance of Surmu.
Jagroop and Surmu were arrested on Tuesday.
According to the police Sadiq was in Ludhiana to meet his relatives. The rest of the accused are his friends from the same locality.
The girl alleged gang rape by 10 men in her complaint, but police after preliminary inquiries said six men were involved. The victim had described six sketches to the police.
The 21-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped near Issewal village on the banks of Sidwan canal in Ludhiana on the intervening night of February 9 and 10.
