Amritsar train mishap: Navjot Sidhu, wife summoned to join magisterial probe

Jalandhar Divisional Commissioner has summoned Cabinet minister Navjot Sidhu and his wife to join magisterial probe in Amritsar train tragedy. The Divisional Commissioner has told the couple to appear before him on Friday, November 2.

Jalandhar Divisional Commissioner B Purushartha is holding a magisterial probe into the Amritsar train mishap that occurred on Dussehra.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Railways, Government Railway Police (GRP), Municipal Corporation and Punjab Police officers got their statements recorded. These officers include AIG Daljit Singh Rana, DSP Surinder, Pathankot GRP police station SHO Dharminder Kalyan, and many others. Estate Officer (EO) Sushant Bhatia also appeared before the investigating officer, a report said.

Quoting Jalandhar Divisional Commissioner Purushartha, The Tribune report said the probe covers all aspects of the Amritsar train tragedy. Purushartha said if required they would summon the train driver and the gateman.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and general secretary Bikram Singh Majithia are demanding the Sidhus be arraigned in this case. Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur was the chief guest at the Dussehra function in Amritsar East constituency, represented by Sidhu.
