Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley didn’t know how to drive, says his lawyer-friend Ranjit Kumar. According to a report, when Jaitley suffered from a heart stroke in 2005, it was Ranjit who drove him to the hospital.
On his demise, Kumar reportedly said, “I am going to miss his friendship the most. He was a man who never lost his cool and was always there when you needed him.”
Recalling the first time he met Arun Jaitley, he said, “It was in 1974 when I was in the first year of my graduation of Hindu College. He was contesting for the post of the president of the Delhi University’s student union. You meet him once and you’ll be in his awe.”
Arun Jaitley and Ranjit Kumar used to have morning walk together in the Lodhi Garden between 1999 and 2014.
He said “Jaitley had an elephantine memory. And we all were envious of that. If he would describe a song or a scene from a movie in 1960s it would be with every minute detail. When I became the Solicitor General of India, Jaitley advised me that a man should never lose his composure since that would not help him in any way.”
As per a News 18 report, Kumar says that Jaitley was very calm and he ever lost his cool. “I never saw him getting angry or losing cool in the last four decades I have known him. And he practised it till his last breath,” Kumar said.
