A private university in Bathinda has removed two women wardens on charges of stripping girl students. The students have alleged that around a dozen girls were forcibly asked to remove their clothes after a sanitary pad was found in the hostel’s toilet. The wardens wanted to ascertain as to who threw the pad inside the toilet, alleged the girls.
The accused wardens were removed after around 700 girl students of the university staged a protest. The university administration also sacked two women security officers for dereliction of duty, informed MS Johal, the Dean.
The girl students allege that administration of Akal University, situated in Talwandi Sabo, failed to take action against the wardens for long.
Earlier, the administration had allegedly termed the incident a ‘minor’ one. It, however, removed the four employees without initiating any legal proceedings against them.
The girl students are now demanding legal action against the accused.
Meanwhile, the girl students have also alleged that the university authorities functioned in an ‘orthodox’ manner as the girls are not allowed to mix with the boys.
Notably, the headmaster and a teacher of Government Girls School in Kundal village of Fazilka were suspended over similar charges.
