The Hush Post: In an incident that highlights the “jungle raaj” in Bihar, an RTI activist was shot dead in a broad daylight in the East Champaran district of the state on Tuesday. The activist had repeatedly urged the police authorities to provide him security citing a threat to his life as he had exposed several scams in Bihar.

The RTI activist, Rajendra Singh, was gunned down by unknown arm-wielding assailants near Mathbanwari Chawk close to Piprakothi Police Station while he was going on a bike. Rajendra Singh died on the spot. The activist had reportedly escaped three such attacks in the past, a report said on Wednesday.

Rajendra Singh had urged senior police officers on several occasions to provide hi security, citing threat to his life but his petition remained under process, it was reported.

The RTI activist was renowned for his work in exposing discrepancies in the functioning of LIC office, irregularities in teachers and police recruitment. Singh also had exposed the misuse of government funds meant for building toilets and houses under Indira Awas Yojna, the report said.

Following his personal investigations in many such scams, several FIRs had been registered with the interference of local courts and some cases even being put on trial recently, it was reported.

A senior RJD leader Alok Mehta reportedly told the media persons in Patna that anyone standing up against corruption and wrongdoing was being targeted in the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, said the report.
