The Hush Post: In an act of irresponsible behaviour and going overboard with excitement, an IPS officer in Bihar celebrated his transfer to the CBI by firing nine shots in the air as celebratory firing at his farewell party. After the video, showing his carelessness went viral, his appointment now stands cancelled . No case has been registered against the police officer for misuse of his official weapon, though a high-level inquiry has been marked.
Siddharth Mohan Jain, Superintendent of Police, Katihar, was shifted to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as part of large-scale transfers of top officers by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar last week.
A 2006 batch IPS officer, Jain had applied for a transfer to the CBI. While many were moved out of the CBI, Jain had got what he wanted. In the video that is being circulated online, Jain is seen standing next to another officer, Mithilesh Mishra, who is singing a popular Hindi film song. It was their joint farewell party at the golf course, Railway Golf Grounds, and went on till late night. Jain is seen firing shots in the air to match the beats of the song from the superhit film Sholay.
No one was injured but the irresponsible expression and display of arms made him lose what he had got. “Jain’s deputation to the Central Bureau of Investigation is cancelled and an investigation into the incident is on,” a senior police officer SK Singhal told a national daily.
Celebratory firing in the air is a tradition at weddings in parts of northern India which has often led to people losing lives.
