The Hush Post, Jalandhar: A minor argument during a retirement party turned violent after an Akali leader and his associates opened indiscriminate fire on a BJP leader and his supporters at Brandrath Road here in Jalandhar. The incident occurred on Wednesday. BJP leader Deepak Telu who was hit by a bullet was rushed to a local hospital in a critical condition. The police have lodged an FIR against SAD leader Subhash Saundhi, his two sons and others. Saundhi has been taken into custody by the police.
It is learnt that a retirement party was going on at Brandrath Road where Subhash Saundhi and Valmiki Utsav Committee president Vipin Sabharwal were also present. Both indulged in an argument over some issue which soon turned violent.
It is alleged that after the party got over, Subhash Saundi, along with his supporters, cornered Deepak Telu at Ali Mohalla Puli and opened fire on him. Some vehicles parked in the area also got damaged in the firing. A bullet hit Telu in the abdomen and he got seriously injured. Vipin Sabharwal and his associates were also fired at, but they escaped unhurt.
On receiving information a police team led by SP Satinder Chaddha reached the spot and took Subhash Sondhi in its custody. An FIR has been registered under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and attempt to murder charge has been slapped against Subhash Saundhi, his brother Dharmerndra Saundhi, sons Himanshu and Akash Saundhi, Raju Khosla, Goba, Pidda, Sikandar, Rahul, Surinder and other unknown persons. Meanwhile, search is on to nab the other accused named in the FIR who are still at large.
