A bride in Uttar Pradesh showed courage and threw out her groom of his own wedding. The girl took this extreme step after she saw the groom abusing some women from her side. The incident took place in village Sisauli of Muzaffarnagar district on Saturday.
As per reports, trouble began during the customary ‘juta churai’ or shoe stealing ceremony. The girls from the bride’s side stole and hid the groom’s shoes and demanded money in return.
The custom is generally marked by light-hearted banter and it was the same during the wedding too. The banter angered the groom, 22-year-old Vivek Kumar, who started abusing the women.
Family members and people present during the wedding tried to pacify Vivek, but to no avail. Instead, he got angrier and used expletives. He even slapped one person during the melee.
As the matter reached the bride, she at once called of the wedding. The entire baraat was sent back, but the groom, his father and two relatives were held captive by the bride’s family.
Police were called on the spot which helped both the sides to reach a compromise. Besides, the bride also made the groom’s family return the Rs. 10 lakh he had received as dowry.
News18.com reported that no complaint was filed from either side.
It was reported that the village elders tried to persuade the girl to go ahead with the marriage. She, however, refused to marry the groom.
