The Hush Post: All public and private sector banks have been directed to open on Saturday March 31.
The government has advised people to not listen to rumours being spread on social media. Social media has been abuzz with rumours that banks were going to be shut for five days starting March 29.
As per the Finance Ministry, banks will be shut on March 29 and 30 on account of Mahavir Jayanti and Good Friday but will open on Saturday March 31. Banks will shut again on April 2 (Monday) for the annual closing of accounts.
Rumour mongers were having a field day despite March 31 being a fifth Saturday. Most banks are normally open on fifth Saturday and are shut only on second and fourth Saturday.
The last date for filing returns for Assessment Years 2016-17 and 2017-18 and revised returns for Assessment Year 2016-17 is 31st March, 2018.
