The Hush Post: Union Minister and Punjab BJP president Vijay Sampla has said that the Centre is ready to release more funds under the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme, provided the state government disburses the funds already at hand. Speaking at a press conference of Confederation of Unaided Institutes of Punjab held on Tuesday, Sampla said that the Centre had sent Rs 115 crore to the state government nine months ago. “The Punjab government first needs to furnish a Utilization Certificate (UC) to the Centre after disbursing the Rs 115 crore among the state colleges. Only then it can send more funds”, he said.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the non-disbursal of funds, the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment said that the Centre released all the funds under the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme and the state government has to disburse it. “It is disappointing that the state government failed to disburse and furnish a UC for Rs 115 crore released 9 months back. More funds cannot be released unless the UC is sent to the Centre. The state government is solely responsible for the non-availability of funds to colleges. Hence, the colleges should mount pressure on the Punjab government through Congress ministers, MLAs and leaders”.
