construction ban in chandigarh goes

The fine has been imposed for not making Chandigarh’s solid waste policy public despite several reminders

The Hush Post: The Supreme Court on Wednesday placed on record Chandigarh’s newly formulated solid waste management policy, giving relief to the administration from construction ban. The court, however, turned down the municipal corporation’s plea to waive off Rs 3-lakh fine imposed on it.

As per the SC’s August 31 order, the fine will have to be paid within two weeks. After the SC rap, the Chandigarh administration and MC worked overnight to formulate the policy and notified it on Tuesday and appeared before the apex court on Wednesday to comply with its directions.

Municipal commissioner KK Yadav was present in the apex court along with other senior officials.

Meanwhile, the MC chief said solid waste management will be the major agenda at the House meet later this month. He said that all the councillors who recently came back from study tours will place their reports.
