Bollywood star Akshay Kumar who arrived in Chandigarh in the morning to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to look into the Bargari sacrilege incident has left for Mumbai.
He was questioned at the Punjab Police headquarters by the SIT. Akshay maintained that he met Sukhbir Badal once during kabaddi World Cup in 2011 in Punjab. After that, he met Sukhbir two-to-three times casually during social functions. However, he never met Sukhbir outside Punjab. This goes against the fact that Akshay ever met Ram Rahim with Sukhbir Singh Badal at his residence at Juhu.
As per the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission on the sacrilege incident, an alleged meeting between former deputy chief minister Sukhbir and Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was held at Akshay Kumar’s flat in Mumbai in connection with the release of the Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s film ‘MSG’.
The meeting was held before the pardon given to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a blasphemy case, the report said.
However, Akshay had in the past categorically denied any such meeting at his house. He denied having met Gurmeet Ram Rahim ever.
In an earlier statement Akshay said, “I learnt from social media at some point that Gurmeet Ram Rahim resided for a while at some place in my locality Juhu, in Mumbai. But we never ever crossed each other’s paths.”
While Parkash Singh Badal appeared before the SIT on November 16, Sukhbir was summoned on November 19. Akshay Kumar will appear today at the Punjab Police headquarters, Chandigarh.
The summon orders have been issued separately for the three by SIT member IPG (OCCU) Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh.
