Chandigarh residents may have to face shortage of water for the next two days. The lines of four phases of the Kajauli Water Works will remain closed affecting water supply on Monday and Tuesday. However, tankers will be deployed for distribution in the city.
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has divided the city into 7 zones for the purpose. An Executive Engineer, 2 SDOs and 3 Junior Engineers have been deployed in each zone. These officers are required to be on duty for 48 hours. The MC has hired extra tankers for water supply.
The lines of the four phases of Kajauli Water Works have been shut to facilitate the connection of Phase V and Phase VI to the intake. Once connected, the city will hence receive 29 MGD water in the coming days.
City residents will receive normal supply of water from 4 to 8 am in the morning on Monday. However, there will be no supply from 6 to 8 pm. Similarly, the water pressure will remain low on Tuesday morning and evening. Some areas of the city may even remain dry. MC tankers will take care of the water supply on these days.
Learning a lesson from the past, the MC has increased the strength of tankers this time. MC has hired 45 tankers while it has 17 of its own. The tankers will lift water from 7 water tanker filling centers across the city. The tankers will be free of cost and can be availed on first come first serve basis.
