The Hush Post: India’s hockey legend Balbir Singh Senior has been admitted to the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) at PGI, Chandigarh. He is 94. He was hospitalised on October 1. Doctors say he is in a critical condition.
According to the doctors, he is critical and is admitted in the RICU. His heart rate is quite slow and blood pressure is very low.
Balbir Singh was part of India’s first Independent India hockey team. Under Balbir Singh Senior India won three golds. India won the 1948 London Olympics gold beating England 4-1. He retained his position in the squad that won gold the 1952 Olympics gold and led the country to a joint gold in 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
He was conferred with Padma Shri in 1957. Later, he was the manager of India’s only World Cup winning team in 1975.
