The Hush Post: A Chandigarh court has acquitted a man accused of raping his minor niece and impregnating her. This despite the fact that his DNA matched with that of the newborn child.
The accused, Prakash, was set free by the district court as the victim had not turned up for hearing since the last 11 months. The police stated in the court that it was unaware of her whereabouts. The victim had been handed over to her relatives by the police; however, they haven’t been spotted since then. The court had even issued notice to the DGP in this regard.
The victim, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, had come to reside with her paternal aunt (bua) who used to work as a domestic help at Dr Sanjeev Garg’s residence in Doctor’s Colony in Sector 32. The minor girl also got employed at the doctor’s residence and after a few months it came into light that she is pregnant. Her aunt’s husband, Prakash was accused of rape in the case.
The minor girl filed a complaint against her uncle in September 2015. Later she also gave birth to a child. But when her statement was recorded in front of the magistrate, she put the blame on Dr Sanjeev Garg. In order to ascertain the truth, the police then conducted a DNA test of the child and both the accused. Interestingly, the DNA of the child matched with that of her uncle Prakash. Dr. Sanjeev Garg was then discharged of the case.
It is to be noted that a local court had recently sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his niece (sister’s daughter) and impregnating her. In this case, the DNA of the guilty too had matched with that of the newborn girl child.
