The Hush Post: One of Punjab’s dreaded gangsters Ravi Deol has surrendered before a local court in Sangrur. Ravicharan Singh, alias Ravi Deol, was wanted in several criminal cases including the multi-crore international drug racket. Kingpin of the ‘Ravi Gang’, Ravi Deol, appeared all of a sudden in the court of Additional CJM Mehandiratta along with his counsel. He was then sent to Sangrur Jail. Sources say that police will soon seek his remand. Hailing from Sangrur, Ravi Deol is a key link in the Jagdish Bhola drug racket, in which Olympic bronze medal winner and star boxer Vijender Singh’s name had also cropped up. In the year 2013, huge quantities of lifestyle drugs and raw material for these drugs were recovered from Ravi Deol’s house in Sangrur.
Ravi Deol happens to be the brother-in-law of wrestler Ram Singh who was a fellow boxer and former room-mate of Vijender Singh. Ram Singh was arrested by the Punjab police in connection with the drugs case. Ravi Deol had recently uploaded a video on YouTube accusing Punjab Police of framing him in a false case and claiming that he and Ram Singh were innocent.
A proclaimed offender, Ravi Deol was wanted in several cases in Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala. He was an aspiring singer and actor and has three Punjabi albums to his name. His song ‘Sada ni kasur, sada zila Sangrur’ had made him quite famous in Punjab.
It is to be noted that a day earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had appealed the gangsters active in the state to shun violence and return to normal life.
