The Hush Post: Following the cabinet expansion, Technical Education minister Charanjit Singh Channi and others have been assured by Rahul Gandhi that while appointing MLAs for various boards and corporations, due representation will be given to dalits and backward section MLAs.
After the cabinet expansion, the dalit and OBC MLAs of the Punjab Congress met Rahul Gandhi. The meeting also augured that the MLAs had clearly bypassed the Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh for not being given due representation in the cabinet. At least, this is what it seems. To lead them was Technical Education minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who had along with him a Deputy Speaker, Vidhan Sabha Ajaib Singh Bhatti and Tanda Urmar MLA Sangat Singh Gilzian met Rahul Gandhi.
Before this meeting, Channi and MLA Raj Kumar Verka along with four other MLAs had presented their case before AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot. This meeting on Wednesday was follow up of the previous one.
Sources said that Priyanka Gandhi was also there in the meeting.
These leaders raised issues of discrimination against dalits and backward classes and sought redressal.
There are 26 per cent dalits in the state. The delegation said that the dalits and backward classes could again be discriminated against while appointing heads of various corporations and boards. The members said that at least one-third of such posts should be given to the backward and dalits. Rahul has assured the delegation that their demanded would be considered.
