The Hush Post: Come June 1 and four new flights will take off from the Chandigarh International Airport. The airport is currently closed for runway upgrade work till May 31. The Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL) has given its nod to start four additional flights to Srinagar, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Srinagar.
The decision comes in the backdrop of the increased watch hours which had been earlier curtailed by the Indian Air Force (IAF), which manages the airport, last October due to runway upgradation work. Also there have been no flights on Sundays since then. The runway watch hours are scheduled to change from June.
According to Deepesh Joshi, PRO, CHIAL, the additional flights will start as the airport will become operational on June 1.
A connecting flight between Ahmedabad and Srinagar sector will start form June 1 on weekdays, while a direct flight to Bengaluru will begin on July 1. This service will be available on Sundays too.
Another connecting flight between Kolkata and Srinagar sector on weekdays is scheduled to start on July 15 and on August 1 a direct flight to Indore will begin operations. This flight will also be available on Sundays. The flight schedule is subject to last minute change.
