The Hush Post: At a time when nationalism is being worn on sleeves, the grandson of a revolutionary freedom fighter late Udham Singh, Gurdev Singh Sandhu, a farmer of Chahal village of Faridkot district, committed suicide by hanging himself at his tubewell. Revolutionary Udham Singh went to London to avenge the Jallianwallan Bagh massacre and shot General Michael O’Dwyer, who was the Governor of Punjab during the tragedy, from a close range.

Sources say, Gurdev was under a debt of Rs 25 lakh. As a result of this debt, he was under constant depression and also felt a sense of shame that being a grandson of a great freedom fighter, he led a miserable life.

SHO Mukhtair Singh reached the spot and started the investigations. He said that body had been sent for postmortem at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot.

Police have also initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Zora Singh, relative of the deceased, while talking to news website babushahi.com said that government must take care of the freedom fighters families as they sacrificed their lives for the country.
