The Hush Post: Applying for a driving license in Chandigarh? Apply for Aadhar first. The UT administration has decided to make Aadhar card mandatory for obtaining a fresh driving license in Chandigarh.
In a recently held meeting in Chandigarh, the administration has decided that if an applicant does not have an Aadhar number, he/she will not be able to get a driving licence from the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA). Such a system has already been put in place in some states. This is also applicable to anyone who had a DL earlier but wants to renew a fresh driving licence.
Around 250 applicants daily come to the Registration Licencing Authority for a new driving licence. As of now it wasn’t mandatory to have an Aadhar card for the same. Presently, people belonging to other states but are residing here provide residence proofs such as rent agreement, passport, insurance documents or a telephone bill. However, authorities say that the number will drop when the new rules comes into effect.
The Registration and Licensing Authority has made Aadhar compulsory till the month of March for now. This will certainly pose a problem for those who do have an Aadhar Card, but have an address mentioned outside of the UT.
