Gangster Harry Cheema, who jumped from the fourth floor of the Lemon Tree hotel to escape police after an FIR was registered against him for raping a girl, has died.

He succumbed to death due of grievous injured he suffered after the jump. He was accused of raping a girl. When the police came to arrest him, he jumped from the hotel and injured himself badly.

Later, it so turned out that the accused turned out to be a gangster. He was staying at the hotel on a fake identity card. At the hotel he mentioned his name as Aman, a resident of UP. Though, his real name was Harjot Singh Cheema, a resident of Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab.

A girl, who works with a private firm, had called up the police during the wee hours of December 16. She had alleged that she had been raped at Hotel Lemon Tree in the Industrial Area, Phase I.
The victim, in her statement, alleged that the suspect, whom she had met recently, became friends with her and invited her to a party on the night of December 15.

The police said the victim had stated that the suspect picked her up from Tribune Chowk and took her to Hotel Lemon Tree in the Industrial Area, Phase I, under the pretext of booking a room. The victim alleged that the suspect took her to the room and raped her after locking the room.

Later when the suspect slept, the victim left the hotel and called up the police.
A police party, along with the victim, went to the hotel to arrest the suspect during the wee hours of December 16.
As the police knocked at the door, the suspect jumped from the hotel.
He got injured after which he was taken to the GMCH, Sector 32, for treatment.
He suffered fractures on both his legs and injuries on his spine.
A case was lodged against him under Sections 376 (rape) and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the IPC at the Industrial Area police station.
