The Hush Post: Punjab Health Minister Punjab Brahm Mohindra has filed a defamation suit against Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLA from Ludhiana Simarjit Bains who had levelled allegations of a scam in the purchase of medicines against Mohindra, Babushahi reported on Wednesday.
Last month, LIP MLA Simarjit Bains had alleged a scam in the purchase of medicines. Bains had said at a press conference in Chandigarh on July 10 that the Health Department was making tailor-made conditions to give benefit to particular companies in purchases of medicines for supply in government hospitals. He claimed that conditions such as WHO certification and turnover of Rs 50 crore had been introduced to benefit some multinationals, The Tribune had reported.
Demanding a probe, MLA Bains had accused the Punjab Health Minister Mohindra for the same. Bains had alleged that the Health Minister had an association with one of the companies. He alleged that the companies to which the department wanted to give benefits to were selling medicines at exorbitant prices and the same medicines were available at much cheaper prices, the report had said.
On the other hand, refuting these allegations, Mohindra had said the allegations were baseless and that the tendering process was in progress. Mohindra said it had been alleged that he was the owner of one of the companies, adding, “I think Bains has forgotten that acting on a CAG report, I had ordered an inquiry against the same company within the first fortnight of taking over as the Health Minister.”
