Lady tuition teacher arrested for sex with Class X student in Chandigarh

The Hush Post: A 33-year old lady teacher in Chandigarh has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy who was taking tuitions from her. The teacher was produced in the Chandigarh district court on Thursday and sent to judicial custody. Police have booked the teacher under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

The boy, a student of Class X, lives in the same locality as the teacher. Sangeeta Jund, project manager of Child Helpine, told a national daily that when they counselled the boy they realised that the teacher was not only aggressive with him but was also extremely possessive about him. As he slowly opened up to the counsellors, he gave details of the abuse he was facing. It came to light that the teacher had given a SIM card to the boy through which she stayed in touch with him.  “The teacher was sexually assaulting the boy and also sending him emotional text messages,” the helpline project manager said.

The matter first came to light on May 22 when the parents approached the teacher to cancel the tuition classes as the boy’s grades were not improving. The teacher became aggressive with the parents and locked up the boy in a room, it has been alleged. The parents freed the boy with the help of neighbours and took him home. But the teacher reached their home and consumed cough syrup. The parents then called up the police and the teacher was taken to the hospital, according to the news report, after which counsellors from Child Helpline were called.

The boy was allegedly being sexually assaulted since March this year. The boy and his sister had been taking tuitions from her since September last year when he was in Class IX. The teacher had also asked him not to get his younger sister along with him for tuitions.

The accused lady teacher is a mother of two children and her husband is also a lecturer. She is a science teacher in a government school.

  1. Shameless media protecting the woman’s identity. Do they do this when a man is accused of a similar crime?
