The Hush Post: With the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority’s (GMADA) announcement to extend Mohali Airport Road by 10 km to reach New Chandigarh at Mullanpur, the distance between the two new townships, Mohali airport area and New Chandigarh, will be reduced by about 5 km, which means half an hour travelling time.
Anybody travelling from Mohali, particularly from the airport side, to New Chandigarh or the other way round will not have to enter Chandigarh which would effectively reduce their travelling time.
The GMADA authorities said that under the plan, the 200-foot-wide airport road will be extended from the Mohali-Kharar highway (from the point where it starts near the VR Punjab mall), and will pass through Sunny Enclave, Hussainpur village and Thaska to meet the main road (PR 4), which connects Chandigarh with the Siswan-Kurali road at Majri.
GMADA has already started acquisition of about 112 acres for the road.
Chief Engineer of GMADA, Sunil Kansal, said after the completion of the land acquisition process, work would begin on the road without wasting any time.
The 17.5-km-long stretch of Airport Road, which was constructed around three years ago, connects the Mohali-Kharar highway with the Zirkapur-Patiala highway. The estimated cost of the project is expected to be about Rs 200 crore.
