The Sidhu couple — Navjot Kaur Sidhu and her husband, who is a local bodies minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu, have openly said that since Navjot Kaur has not been announced a candidate from Chandigarh for 2019 Lok Sabha polls, she has taken a decision that she will not fight elections from any other constituency.

Earlier, when she had applied for the ticket from Chandigarh, it was believed and probably communicated to her by the central leadership that she will be the candidate from Chandigarh. However, at the eleventh hour, the senior Congress leader from UT, Pawan Kumar Bansal, who happens to be a three time MP, walked away with the ticket.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu said: “Though, I was considered probably local leaders were not by my side and I lost in the race. However, I am with my party candidate and I want BJP to lose.”

However, Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife both have made it clear that they will not fight the elections from anywhere else in the state. There was a talk that Congress wanted to field Navjot Kaur against Harsimrat Kaur Badal from Bhathinda or from Amritsar.

According to News 18, Navjot Kaur has said that though the party wants to field her from Bhathinda, why can’t other big leaders or their wives fight from Bhathinda, what stops them from fighting from that seat?

Former cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is Congress’ star campaigner. However, recently, he stayed aloof from most of the political activities in the state for close to 15-20 days. He is believed to be close to party supremo Rahul Gandhi but after he was not given time to speak at the Moga rally recently, he turned inwards and remained incommunicado and distanced himself from Punjab Congress leadership.
