Organ, eye donation becomes easier; now pledge while applying for a driving license

From now on, the license of the person pledging his organs will also bear his will embossed on it, so that his wish is carried out in case of any untoward incident.

The Hush Post: In a major development which will go a long way in lighting up the lives of lakhs of needy people, the Union government has made amendments to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 2018 providing for an option of a voluntary declaration to donate eyes, organs or tissues in the driving license application form.

Presently, every individual has to fill Form-2 while applying for a driving license. The Centre has made changes to this form. From now on, the license of the person pledging his organs will also bear his will embossed on it, so that his wish is carried out in case of any untoward incident.

The idea was, amongst others, propounded by National vice-president of the Indian Red Cross, former Lok Sabha and current Rajya Sabha MP, and National vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Avinash Rai Khanna. Khanna has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for taking this ‘visionary’ step.
