Chandigarh residents can heave a sigh of relief as the Municipal Corporation is set to slash paid parking prices in the city. The move comes after local Member of Parliament Kirron Kher intervened and asked the authorities to slash the parking rates.

Chandigarh MC may halve the parking rates. Accordingly, two wheelers will be charged Rs. 5 and four-wheelers will have to pay Rs 10.  However, the residents would have to wait for the new fares as the proposal to this effect will be brought in the MC House on February 28.

After the cancellation of contracts, the UT MC started taking all the paid parkings into its possession on Tuesday. However, the city residents were asked to shell out the same fees as charged by the contractors for smart parking.

When the city residents complained to MP Kirron Kher , she boarded a small car and reached a paid parking lot in Sector-35. On being asked to pay Rs. 20, she confronted the parking employees. She said that since the parking was no longer a smart one, lesser charges should be levied. The parking employee replied that he was charging as asked by the higher authorities.

Hearing this, Kher called up MC Commissioner KK Yadava and Mayor Rajesh Kalia asking to reduce the parking rates. Kalia assured Kher that a proposal to this effect would be brought in the House on February 28.
