Panjab University polls: Kanupriya becomes the first woman president of PUCSU

Around 50 per cent of the students cast their vote for the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) elections held today.

The Hush Post: 22-year-old Kanupriya created history as she became the first elected woman president of the Panjab Univeristy on Thursday.  The Students for Society (SFS) candidate defeated her nearest rival, Ashish Rana of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP)+SFPU+HAS alliance by a margin of 719 votes.

Around 50 per cent of the students cast their vote for the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC) elections held today. Six candidates were in fray for the presidential post, while seven candidates had contested for the post of the vice-president and four each for general secretary and joint secretary.

Kanupriya is pursuing her MSc (second-year) at the zoology department in the University. Kanupriya was the third presidential candidate fielded by the SFS for the Panjab Univeristy polls. Earlier, the SFS had fielded Amandeep Kaur in the 2014 elections and Hassanpreet Kaur for the last year’s polls.  Amandeep Kaur had polled 1,334 votes while Hassanpreet Kaur had stood the runner-up securing 2,190 votes.
