PHAGWARA BOY STUDYING IN CHANDIGARH AMONG TOP 20 IN CAT, ENGINEERING STUDENTS SHINE

The Hush Post: A small town Phagwara boy studying in B Com final year in SD College, Chandigarh, has scored 100 percentile in the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2017 for getting admission into the prestigious IIMs in the country, results of which were declared on Monday. Two women, and only three non-engineers have found a place among the top 20 students.

Only 20 students achieved 100 percentile, Pramod Bery, 21, being one of them out of the nearly 2 lakh students who took the exam across the country. As many as 10,000 students from the city appeared in the exam.

Pramod’s father Dr Inderjeet Bery is a businessman and mother Sunita is a homemaker. He did his matric from Phagwara and Class XII from Jalandhar with 95.8 per cent marks. So far, he has got a call from the IIM, Ahmedabad and the CAT score is also valid for admission to the University Business School at the PU.

Pramod said that the mock tests in the coaching classes helped him immensely after which he focussed on his weaknesses. “There were no fixed hours for studying every day, but I was regular,” he told a national daily.

Delhi-based Chhavi Gupta, an M-Tech graduate from IIT-Delhi was one of the two woman candidates with a 100th percentile score.

Teaching at a coaching institute in Sector 8, Chandigarh and equipped with an engineering degree from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Patiala, Ayush Chauhan (24), who hails from Shimla, scored 99.95 percentile.

Working with EXL Analytics in Gurgaon, Vipul Kukkar, 22, who did mechanical engineering from Punjab Engineering College (PEC), has scored 99.99 percentile in the exam.

Himanshu Chopra, who is working as probationary officer (PO) with the State Bank of India, and who did his engineering from CCET, Sector 26, scored 99.86 percentile.

Priyam Dixit from Jagadhri in Haryana, a final year computer science student at PEC, got 99.61 percentile while Rishab Goyal, an avid table tennis player and a final year student of electrical engineering at PEC, scored 99.60.

A Panchkula resident who passed out from St John’s High School Raghav Rai and doing his civil engineering from PEC scored 99.54 percentile. Another Panchkula resident and a final-year student of Electronics and Communication at UIET Shashank Saroha has scored 99.10 percentile. He is Human Capital City Head in ‘Make a Difference’, an NGO working for children at shelter homes.

Sophia Dhawan of the CCET settled for 99.52 percentile. She is in the final year of computer science stream.

Anmol Bansal, who is doing BSc from SD College, Sector 32, has scored 99.21 percentile. She has got a call from the IIM, Ahmedabad.

India has 20 IIMs admitting nearly 4,000 students into their flagship two-year management programmes.
