PS Chhatwal, Managing Director of Torque Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., had filed his nomination for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat. However, it has been rejected on the ground that his name did not figure in the voter list.
Addressing a press conference at his Chandigarh office on Thursday, Chhatwal lamented that his application was rejected on the grounds that his name was not in the voter list, despite the fact that he held a valid voter card.
He said he moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the rejection of his nomination, but the Court did not accept his appeal on the plea that they did not want to interfere with the work of the Election Commission.
“I have no vested interests in fighting this election, I merely want to make Chandigarh the No 1 city of India and the world. I think it has the potential, but unfortunately it is being managed badly. I know I can change it,” Chhatwal said.
He said Chandigarh has been neglected and is plagued by many problems. ”Its ranking among the clean cities of the country is falling. Government schools lack basic amenities as do government hospitals, where the condition of healthcare is pitiable. There is no housing for immigrant workers of other states.”
Chhatwal said the city needs funds and he is ready to give both resources and time to work for the city and improve its condition.
Referring to the problem of traffic congestion in the city, Chhatwal said he would need just 51 days to turnaround this problem. ”I will work hard for electricity supply and management with state-of-the-art technology. Law and order will also be my top priority,” he said, adding that he would also ensure dignity and care to the elderly population of the city.
Now he says, he will file an appeal in the Supreme Court to get his fundamental right of contesting the polls.
