The Hush Post: The final report of Justice (retd) Ranjit Singh Commission, concludes that former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was in the know of the police action against the Sikhs protesting against sacrilege incidents.
The former CM was in touch with the then DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and the district authorities of Faridkot, said the report. The report has though been ridiculed and rejected by Badal’s party Shiromani Akali Dal. Sukhbir Badal said that one can procure this report from a junk-dealer. It is not worth more than Rs 5.
The debate on the report, which has been tabled in the Punjab Assembly, is scheduled for Tuesday August 28, 2018.
The Sikh protesters on dharna against incidents of blasphemy were forced to disperse by the police while resorting to firing at Behbal Kalan and Kot Kapura. “Chief Minister Shri Parkash Singh Badal was in touch with the DGP as well as the district administration and cannot be considered ignorant about the action which was finally taken by the police at Kot Kapura,” the report said.
Badal, however, did not give his side of the fact by deposing before the Commission. Two persons were killed in the police firing on the protesters at Behbal Kalan.
Here is an excerpt of the report:
There is sufficient material available on record in the form of telephone calls between the Deputy Commissioner and Mr Mantar Singh Brar and Mr Gagandeep Singh. It is on record that contact was established with Mr Gagandeep Singh Brar who made the chief minister speak to Mr Mantar Singh Brar. Soon after Mantar Singh Brar spoke to Sumedh Singh Saini that too on the asking of Mr Gagandeep Singh Brar.
