The Hush Post: The Jalandhar Smart City project is all set to gain momentum as developmental projects worth Rs 967 crore have been given a go ahead. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Basant Garg has directed officials to release work orders for 10 projects of the pan city project worth Rs 967.03 crore to a smart city consultant company. The decision was taken after a detailed discussion over the projects with MC officials and the consultant company.
It was told in the meeting that the Asian Development Bank may fund the projects related to water, sewerage, drainage, solid waste management, smart roads and e-rickshaws. The estimated expenditure on the solid waste management and e-rickshaw projects is yet to be ascertained. Chief Administrator of the Jalandhar Development Authority, Girish Dayalan, was also present on the occasion. During the meet, representatives of various companies gave their presentations for the 150 lakh square metre roof-top solar power project. The project will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.
The transport system of the city will witness transition in a phased manner as CNG autos will replace the existing ones running on diesel. Auto parking at 10 different places in the city will also be constructed. Rs 9 crore have been earmarked for this project for about 3,000 autos. Besides, another Rs 4 crore will be spent on 10 other general parking lots.
Plying smart buses equipped with GPS tracking systems on main roads of the city was also discussed during the meeting. Also the construction of 2 km-long smart road in Model Town area at a cost of Rs 22 crore; smart parking for 600 cars under public-private partnership worth Rs 45 crore and commercial development works at 6 places were deliberated upon in the meeting.
