The Hush Post: Chandigarh Police on Wednesday arrested an employee of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for allegedly raping a 21-year-old girl in Chandigarh.
The accused has been identified as Gurdeep Singh. 40-year-old Gurdeep is from Attari, Amritsar.
Police registered a case against him on Tuesday on the complaint of the victim. He raped her at Sector 28, where he was provided accommodation along with his family.
Investigating officers said Gurdeep’s wife was the women’s warden at the place and he used to come to the place after his duties in Yamunanagar, Haryana. The husband-wife duo also has an eight-year-old daughter.
“The victim’s father is a bus driver and lives in Punjab. The victim studies in a Chandigarh college. The incident took place a couple of months ago, after which she confided in her parents,” said a policeman.
Soon after the crime came to light of the Bhawan management, they asked Gurdeep and his family to leave immediately.
A case of rape under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered on Tuesday. The accused was arrested from Dasuya on Wednesday.
