Tax authorities have fined JW Marriot Rs 25,000 for violating regulations by collecting tax on an exempted item. This was reported by the ANI after JW Marriot charged Rahul Bose Rs. 442 for two bananas.
On Monday, Rahul Bose’s video complaint went viral on Twitter after he roasted the hotel for charging him Rs 442 for just two bananas.
“Who said that fruit wasn’t harmful to your existence?” the 51-year-old Shaurya star said.
The Excise and Taxation Department in Chandigarh also visited the hotel and seized documents related to the sale.
In a statement to Indian Express, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner and Excise and Taxation Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar said, “Taking cognisance of the video and bill posted by the actor, I have ordered an investigation. I have directed Assistant Excise and Taxation Commissioner (AETC) Rajeev Chaudhary to conduct a thorough probe on how the hotel had charged GST on fresh fruits. Strict action will be taken if found guilty.”
JW Marriott is yet to comment on the episode. Rahul Bose, who was shooting for a film in Chandigarh, left for Amritsar the next day.
