A Maharashtra court issues arrest warrant against Naidu and 15 others telling them to appear in the court by September 21

The Hush Post: A Maharashtra court has ordered the arrest of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The court has ordered the police to arrest Naidu and 15 others and to produce them by September 21.

The court has issued this arrest warrant against Naidu in connection with a protest in 2010 in Maharashtra. In 2010, Nadu and others had held a protest in Babli of Maharashtra to oppose a water project. The project was to come up in Babli across Godavari River. The Maharashtra Police had arested Naidu along with others and lodged them in a Pune jail. Later they were released, a report said.

The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Dharmabad in Nanded of Maharashtra has issued the arrest warrant. The magistrate has issued warrant on a local resident’s petition.

In 2010, Naidu was the Leader of Opposition of then united Andhra Pradesh. And he had held that protest saying that the Babli Project would affect the Andhra residents.

Naidu is currently the CM of Andhra Pradesh minus Telangana .

There are various charges against the Andhra CM and others. These offences include assault or criminal force, to deter public servant from discharge of duty, voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, act endangering life or personal safety of others, criminal intimidation, among others.

TDP blames BJP for the case

Reacting to the development, Naidu’s party, the Telegu Desam Party (TDP), has accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for it. Lanka Dinakar, TDP spokesman, accused the BJP of targeting Naidu. Dinakar said the BJP is “targeting” Naidu because he moved out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.

Naidu’s son and state Information Technology Minister, N Lokesh said his father and other TDP leaders will appear before the court.
