Skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was sent in at number three, ahead Karun Nair and Manoj Tiwari. The move backfired as Ashwin fell for a duck, and Preity launched an attack on Sehwag
The Hush Post: One of the most feared batsmen and now Kings XI mentor Virender Sehwag had a spat with its owner Priety Zinta.
Sehwag found himself in the midst of a vitriolic verbal attack from Zinta on Tuesday. This happened after they could not chase a comparatively small target of 158 against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League match.
Miffed Sehwag, who has had a five-year long stint, may end his run with Kings XI Punjab after this season ends.
Those who know about the altercation said, Preity questioned Sehwag even before the players had retired to the change rooms and asked him about the ‘tactics’ used in the game.
Reportedly the spat took place after, “Against Rajasthan Royals, skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was sent in at number three, ahead of more accomplished batsmen such as Karun Nair and Manoj Tiwari. The move backfired as Ashwin fell for a duck, and Preity launched an attack on Sehwag for the decision.”
As per the sources, Sehwag initially played it cool. “However, when Preity kept blaming him, saying ‘unnecessary’ tinkering with the playing XI had led to a spate of losses, Sehwag tried to reason with her.”
This is not the first time that Sehwag – who has played 104 Tests with two triple hundreds to his name – has had problems because of Preity “interfering” in his job.
Reportedly, Sehwag did ask other owners to rein in Preity. He told the owners that he’ll not comment on Preity’s acting skills and that she too should refrain from talking about his cricketing acumen.
Those close to Sehwag have said that he kept his cool and is not commenting because he didn’t want the players to lose focus, especially when they have a chance to qualify for the play-offs.
Preity too hasn’t responded to calls and messages but a few people close to her played down the incident, calling it a “routine post-match argument.” However sources close to the franchise conceded she was “upset” about Kings XI Punjab’s defeat.
