The Hush Post: Dane van Niekerk and teammate Marizanne Kapp of South African women’s cricket team have tied a nuptial knot.
The ceremony took place today. Dane van Niekerk is the skipper of the South African cricket team. They are the second couple to have the same sex marriage among international cricket stars.
Earlier, New Zealand pair of Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu also got married and they were the first among the same sex pairs to get married to each other.
The announcement was first made on Kapp’s official Instagram page, and ESPNCricinfo reported that most of their teammates attended the wedding.
With more than 1,700 runs, van Niekerk is fourth on the list of Proteas all-time run-getters list while Kapp is placed sixth with more than 1,600 runs.
Earlier in 2017, Australian cricketer Elyse Villani had admitted to being a lesbian, and she is reportedly seeing her teammate Nicole Bolton.
After the postal survey carried out in 2017 in Australia so that the Parliament gets down to discussing legalising the same-sex marriages, another cricketer Megan Schutt got a ‘Yes’ vote by posting a photograph kissing her partner Jess Holyoake.
In 2015, former Australia cricketer Alex Blackwell got hitched to her partner Lynsey Askew, an ex-England cricketer. The marriage took place in England since same-sex marriages were not recognised in Australia.
