The 19-year-old Delhi boy who allegedly stabbed his parents and sister to death had an addiction to online game PUBG. Besides, the teenager had made a WhatsApp group that comprised about 10 members of his age group including girls.
The police said the boy had taken a room on rent in Mehrauli where he spent time with his friends. The boy and his friends used to bunk classes to spend time together in the Mehrauli room, a report said.
Accused Sarnam Verma alias Suraj allegedly murdered his father Mithilesh, mother Siya and sister in the wee hours of Wednesday. After killing the trio, Suraj allegedly ransacked the house to make it appear like a robbery. But the police arrested him in the evening on the same day, the report said.
The police said that Suarj showed no signs of remorse and repeatedly kept saying, “please save me from the law”. When his family members were cremated, his relatives didn’t request the court to allow Suraj to complete the last rites. Mithilesh’s brother and nephew carried out the last rites, the police said.
The cops found during the probe that Suraj had a WhatsApp group comprising about 10 friends. This WhatsApp group also had girls. They used to talk about bunking classes and make plans to hang out together, the report said.
“His friends idolised him and considered him an icon. He had rented a room in Mehrauli along with his friends. At the room, they had a TV set. On the day he did not want to attend classes, he would stay at the room from till 6 pm. He used to play online game PUBG,” the police said.
The police have asked Suraj’s about 10 friends to join the investigation.
The family members told the police that they always felt Suraj was a “quiet and nice” fellow. But their neighbours said there were frequent quarrels in the family over Suraj’s behaviour, the report said.
Suraj’s family had rebuked him for flying kites on Independence Day. This is what made him hatch a plan to teach them a lesson.
The teenager was holding a grudge since his parents raised an objection about his lifestyle and his disinterest in studies.
His parents had rebuked him when he flunked his Class 12 exams. “He felt he failed his Boards since his father had asked him to supervise the construction of their house. He was upset about being blamed,” a police officer said.
The police said Suraj’s father had got him admission to a private institute in Gurgaon for a diploma in civil engineering. His father wanted him to become a contractor like him.
The boy was upset with his sister as he felt his parents preferred her over him. He also felt that his sister used to “leak details about his personal life” to their parents.
Before killing his family members, Suraj behaved normally and even saw photo albums with his parents till midnight. He woke up at 3 am and stabbed his father multiple times. Hearing the commotion, Suraj’s mother, who was sleeping in the same room, raised an alarm but he stabbed her once.
Then Suraj went to his sister’s room and stabbed her in the neck. His mother came there to save her daughter but he stabbed her and stabbed his sister in the stomach.
The teen then ransacked the house and washed off his fingerprints from the knife and then alerted neighbours. The cops said a few years back, Suraj had staged a fake kidnapping and fled the home. But later he developed cold feet as he thought how would he sustain without money.
