After senior BJP leader LK Advani was dropped from the list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, another veteran BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi was meted the same treatment. Moreover, both these leaders have now been omitted from the list of star campaigners for Uttar Pradesh.
BJP organisational general secretary Ram Lal had met Murli Manohar Joshi on Monday to ask him to announce the decision that he will not be contesting the Lok Sabha elections.
Interestingly, soon after a message on behalf of Murli manohar joshi, although unsigned, popped up on social media.
Ram Lal has been given the task by the BJP High Command of getting in touch with senior party leaders to ask them to announce their non-participation in the coming LS elections. Many senior leaders toed the line, while LK Advani and Joshi refused to make any such announcement. The senior leaders are sore over the fact that the BJP president Amit Shah didnot show the courtesy of informing them personally.
Joshi’s message on Monday, addressed to his constituency, read: “Dear voters of Kanpur, Shri Ramlal General Secretary (Org), Bharatiya Janata Party conveyed to me today that I should not contest the ensuing parliamentary election from Kanpur and elsewhere.”
According to ANI, BJP has released a list of star campaigners for Uttar Pradesh, which include Narendra Modi , Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Uma Bharti.
Murli Manohar Joshi had vacated the Varanasi seat for PM Modi in the 2014 general elections. Joshi had won the Kanpur seat in the 2014 elections.
BJP has fielded party president Amit Shah from LK Advani’s Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat.
BJP had earlier declared it would not field any party leader above the age of 75 years.
