Air India has come with a major relief for those who have to book emergency tickets at the eleventh hour. The national carrier will extend discounts up to 40 percent for tickets booked upto three hours prior to departure of domestic flights.
The move comes in the wake of peaking air fares after Jet Airways’ shutdown.
As of now, buying tickets at the last minute leads to shelling out handsome amounts from the pocket.
Describing the last minute bookings as a “deterrent,” Air India has offered the relief for domestic sector flights.
In a statement, Air India said, “Such high prices are a deterrent and the national carrier has therefore decided for the domestic sector that very last moment inventory, that is, available seats within 3 hours of departure would be sold at a hefty discount, normally exceeding 40 percent of the selling price.”
Officials said the decision was taken during a commercial review meeting at Air India headquarters on Thursday.
The tickets can be purchased from all outlets including Air India Booking Counters, Air India Mobile App, Air India website and Travel Agents.
Notably, the national carrier had also offered “special” fares to Jet Airways passengers stranded at international stations.
In the meanwhile, Jet Airways employees have offered to work on reduced salaries. A delegation of Jet Airways’ employees today met Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and pleaded him to help bring the ailing airlines back on the runway.
“We are willing to work on lesser salaries. But please bring Jet Airways back,” they said.
