Almost 48 hours after Alok Verma was reinstated by the Supreme Court, the 3-member panel headed by the Prime Minister has again sacked him as the CBI head.
The panel said he “had not acted with the integrity expected of him”. The three member panel comprised of PM Modi,Justice AK Sikri and Cong leader Mallikarjun Kharge.

Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had recused himself from the panel. Two members  voted for his ouster. However, the third member Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, representing the opposition, opposed the decision to sack him.
The PM-led panel based its decision on the report of the Central Vigilance Commission. The CVC had found evidence of him influencing investigation in the Moin Qureshi case. There was also evidence of taking of bribe of Rs 2 crore. The CVC found evidence against Verma in several other cases as well, it is said.

Verma is slated to retire on January 31.

Leader of Opposition vouched for Verma

Mallikarjun Kharge, the dissenting member of the panel, questioned how Verma could be removed without a hearing. He argued that he should be restored to “ensure independence and neutrality of CBI”.
