Delhi Police have charged Apoorva Shukla with the murder of her husband Rohit Shekhar Tiwari. The Delhi crime branch today filed the charge sheet in the Saket court. Delhi Police have named 56 witnesses in the case. Rohit Shehkar Tiwari was the son of former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister ND Tiwari.
The 518-page charge sheet reportedly says that Apoorva Shukla was tired of her unsuccessful marriage. It states Apoorva was annoyed with Rohit Shekhar Tiwari’s behavior of late and wanted to get rid of him at any cost.
A report in the Times of India suggests that Apoorva suspected Rohit had a son out of marriage. Apoorva feared that Rohit might bequeath all of his wealth to the boy and hence planned his murder, the report said.
Besides the witnesses, the police have also presented the CCTV footage and mobile locations as evidence in the court.
On April 16, Rohit was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his New Delhi residence. According to the post-mortem report, he died an ‘unnatural death’ due to “asphyxia” as he was strangled and a pillow may have been used to smother him.
Domestic helper Bholu Mandal, Rohit’s cousin Pappu and Apoorva were in the house when Rohit was found dead. Late ND Tiwari’s wife, Ujjwala had told the police, that her son and Apoorva did not share a cordial relationship with Apoorva. The couple had issues since day one of their marriage, she had told the police.
Ujjwala had also alleged that Apoorva and her parents had eyes on his property. She told the police, “Apoorva’s family wanted to take control of the properties of both my sons, Siddharth and Rohit”.
Apoorva Shukla had made contradicting statements during the interrogation.
