Former Delhi Chief Minister and BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana passed away at the age of 82 on Saturday night. He had been bed-ridden for the last two years due to multiple ailments. Two months ago, his eldest son had died after suffering a heart attack. Madan Lal Khurana had suffered a brain haemorrhage about five years ago and was ailing since then.
“He breathed his last at around 11 pm at his Kirti Nagar residence here,” his son Harish Khurana told news agency PTI. He was suffering from chest infection and fever for the last few days, Harish Khurana said.
The body of the former Delhi chief minister will be kept at Delhi BJP office today around 12 pm for people to pay last respects.
Khurana was an RSS member and a four-time Lok Sabha member. He became Delhi’s Chief Minister in 1993. Khurana resigned as chief minister in 1996 in the wake of the hawala scandal, three years into his term.
Khurana resigned from the post of Delhi BJP president after the party’s defeat in 2003 Assembly polls. He had also served as Rajasthan Governor for a few months and was also the union tourism minister.
